It is the mission of the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center to provide programs and activities that assist our senior citizens to achieve and maintain physically healthy, socially active, mentally stimulating and emotionally sound lives. These services are delivered by a knowledgeable and committed staff and a caring and compassionate Board of Directors.

The Committee for Hancock County Senior Citizens, Inc. received its charter in September of 1976. It was organized as the direct result of community leaders desiring to have a place where seniors could socialize and receive services necessary to the elderly.

The first director was Miss Jane Herron who served in that capacity until 1995. Directors since then include Barbara Powell, Tammie Blake and the center's current Executive Director, E. Mark Knabenshue.

The original location of the Hancock County Senior Center was the old lock master's residence at 803 North Chestnut Street in New Cumberland. That structure was moved in 1972 to allow for the relocation of West Virginia Route 2. It was torn down by the Hancock County Commission in 2006.

In the fall of 2001, the Board of Directors voted to relocate to the former Hancock County Children's Home on Gas Valley Road. Funding for renovations was secured through the West Virginia Legislative Digest and the Hancock County Commission.

On May 31, 2006 ground was broken for the addition of the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center. The dedication for this new facility was held May 22, 2007.
