Home Based Services

home     Hancock County Senior Services provides personal care, respite, and housekeeping services to qualifying clients via eight programs.  Those services are provided to you by compassionate, caring, well-trained Direct Care Workers.  Many of our services are provided at little or no cost.  Call 304-564-3801 for details.

     Participants in the WV Bureau of Senior Services’ Lighthouse Program receive up to sixty hours of assistance per month with personal care, mobility, nutrition, and light housekeeping.

 You must meet the following criteria:

  • Hancock County resident at least 60 years of age.

  • Medically eligible based on an evaluation by our R.N.

  • Financially eligible as determined by a sliding fee schedule


   WV Bureau of Senior Services’ Family Alzheimer In-home Respite (F.A.I.R.) Program is designed for family or primary caregivers of individuals dealing with various forms of dementia including Alzheimer’s Disease.  FAIR provides up to 16 hours per week of respite care thereby giving family members time to grocery shop, get a hair cut, run errands, visit friends, or just take a nap.  Qualifying clients must have a physician’s diagnosis of dementia.  In addition, an evaluation must be conducted by our FAIR Coordinator prior to beginning services.

    WV Medicaid Aged & Disabled Waiver (ADW) Services are provided to medically and financially qualified individuals age 60 and above, and, those who are disabled and 18 years of age or older. All clients must be a participant of West Virginia Medicaid. You must have at least 5 deficits related to your Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) as determined by a medical professional.

Services provided in the ADW include:

  • Case Management – development of a service and support plan by our case manager to reflects your wishes and preferences.

  • Homemaker – hands-on  assistance with personal care, nutritional support, and environmental maintenance enabling you to live independently and remain in your home as long as possible.


   Medicaid Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver program (TBI) provides home and community-based waiver services to individuals who are both medically and financially eligible to participate in the program.  The purpose of this waiver is to prevent unnecessary institutionalization of individuals dealing with a traumatic brain injury by providing services and supports that are person-centered.  This program promotes choice, independence, participant-direction, respect, dignity and community integration.


    WV Medicaid Personal Care Program includes direct, in-home services provided by trained direct care workers. Clients must be medically and financially eligible. A medical assessment is conducted by our R. N. and completed by your physician.

Services provided  include:

      • Personal Care – Bathing, Dressing, Grooming

      • Nutrition – Meal Preparation, Feeding

      • Environmental Support – Light Housekeeping

      • Health-Related Tasks – Wheeling, Walking, Transfering

     Hancock County Senior Services is approved to provide the United States Veterans Affairs office to provide Homemaker/Chores/Respite Services.  Hancock County veterans who receive their veterans’ health benefits through either the Pittsburgh or Cleveland V.A. Healthcare Systems are eligible.  Your VA physician orders your services based on your current needs.  Then, simply request our agency to provide your services.


    Private Pay Services are provided to individuals who may not meet the medical or financial eligibility requirements for other services. Those who have long-term care insurance policies covering personal care and/or chores services are also eligible.

    • Personal Care Services are provided at an affordable $13.00 per hour.

    • Chores Housekeeping Services are provided at $10.00 per hour.
