The Hancock County Senior Wellness Center offers many programs and services at little or no cost to Senior and Disabled residents of Hancock County. Transportation: Seniors age 60 and above along with disabled age 18 and over can obtain rides to doctors, medical appointments, grocery store and bank. Lift vans are available for those in wheel chairs. Please contact the center at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment to arrange transportation. The Hancock County Senior Wellness Center is approved through the WV Bureau of Senior Services and WV Medicaid to provide Non-Emergency Medical Transportation. SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program) Counseling: Representatives at the Senior Wellness Center are available daily to assist you with questions about Medicare A & B. We are also able to provide you with an individual Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Analysis. Staff will assist with on-line application for Extra Help with Prescription Drugs. All of these services enable you to make the best decision based on your current pharmaceutical needs. Information and Assistance: Your Hancock County Senior Wellness Center has a wealth of information that will benefit you or your Senior loved one. Examples include: Current information and opportunities available within our community, referrals to other service organizations, assistive technology, and home delivered meal programs. Legal Assistance: The Senior Wellness Center offers Income Tax Preparation, Information on Power of Attorney, Living Wills, and Medical Power of Attorneys. In addition, a knowledgeable staff provides assistance with legal questions and access to West Virginia Senior Legal Aid offices, and information on important senior legislation and issues. Also available at the center are Five Wishes, an easy-to-complete form that lets you say exactly what you want should you require treatment for a serious illness. Estate and financial planning seminars are offered regularly by well-trained professionals. Caregiver Counseling & Support Groups: Each month, a 'Caring and Sharing Hour' is held. The hour-long meeting is specifically designed for individuals who are charged with the day-to-day care of a loved one. Topics include: A Checklist for New Caregivers, 50 Things Every Caregiver Should Know, and Caring for the Caregiver to name only a few. The purpose of the group is to allow caregivers a place to air concerns or questions about caring for their loved one. The group meets at 6:00p.m. 'File of Life' packets are available through our Caregiver Information & Assistance service. These little packets contain vital information in the event of an emergency. Should emergency personnel be called to the home of a senior, they will immediately notice a sticker on the door reading, 'File of Life.' It alerts them to go immediately, after locating the individual, to their refrigerator and find the completed packet. Contained in this packet is all necessary information in the event of an accident, illness or injury including emergency contact phone numbers, current medications, primary care physician and other valuable information. Individual & Group Client Support: The Hancock County Senior Center offers an array of client support activities. Each activity, event, program and service is designed to promote the well-being of the Senior-mind, body and spirit. |
